Thanksgiving Day kicks off a holiday season that brings joy to so many. Unfortunately, it’s also a time when some find themselves struggling just to get by.
My wife and I have been hosting events at Freehold Raceway, combining my love for horse racing, and the desire to help others who go out of their way to serve those in need.
The day after Thanksgiving, we shall assemble at Freehold Raceway to break some bread together, enjoy the races, be in the company of one of the best professional athletes I ever had the pleasure to be around, and most importantly, raise funds for a most worthy group – The Blessing Bag Brigade (is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to showing compassion and humanitarianism towards those in need. Committed to aiding the homeless and educating the public).
I have a special fondness for this day and group, because a true, human “Angel”, is part of the group and does so much for so many, in many different ways. Her name is Jeanne Bligh Marinello, and my wife and I greatly admire her efforts.

Joining us will be two-time Stanley Cup Champion, and member of the NJ Devils Alumni Association, Grant Marshall. Please feel free to bring items for him to autograph, take photos, and chat hockey. We wil also be watching the NJ Devils game at 3PM. There’s no charge for this, and parking and admission to the racetrack is free.
We have two more events this year:
- Toys for Tots Race on Saturday, December 9th, where Freehold Raceway will be collecting monetary and toy donations for children in need. Since its inception, Marine Toys for Tots has distributed more than 627 million toys, books and games to over 281 million children. Attending the race will be Philadelphia Flyers Hall of Famer and former NHL player, Brian Propp.
- The final event will take place at Meadowlands Racing & Entertainment on Saturday, December 16th, where Peter Grandich will be joined by New York Jets legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer, Joe Klecko. A free autograph session with Joe Klecko will occur in the racetrack lobby from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM.
