Whoever coined the phrase “Golden Years” forgot to mention that the gold can be harder to find than in a typical junior resource stock.
I’ll let you in on a little secret: age brings health challenges. At first, they affect people you know; then one day, you look in the mirror and realize they’ve reached you.
I hope my health come late January won’t keep me from sitting in my favorite hotel lobby in the world: the Vancouver Pan Pacific. No other place rekindles so many joyful memories as looking out those windows and taking in its beauty.
When I first visited in the late 1980s, the homes were below bridge level. My last visit was in 2013, not knowing it might be my last. I imagine homes now rise well above that level in a city where you can simply walk from one remarkable sight to the next.
The reasons drawing me there, in order of importance, are:
- To sit by the window in the lobby.
- To thank a few deserving people there whom I never properly thanked.
- To take part in the event hosted by one of the finest people I have ever met and been fortunate enough to call a great friend.
- To meet the best management team of any company I have ever invested in.
- To attend—not speak at—a conference I once emceed for more than 20 years.
I’ll know by early January whether I’m able to attend, and I’ll share that with you then.
I’m grateful that one of my best friends is willing to travel with me if I’m able to go.
If it is God’s will, I pray I will sit there one more time.
