Matthew 16:26 asks a profound rhetorical question: “What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?” It emphasizes that earthly wealth and success are worthless compared to eternal life, urging disciples to prioritize their spiritual selves over worldly gains.

It took me a long time to fully appreciate this. I remain a work in progress thanks to my sinful, failed human-nature.

The old saying “Money makes the world go round” is a secular truth in that money is essential for society to function, driving exchange, labor, and fulfilling basic needs. It does indeed highlight money’s role as the primary medium of exchange, allowing for the purchase of goods, services, and luxury items.

But usage of it and desiring for it are most definitely two different things.
