Hi Peter
It was great to meet you and Mary recently and to get the opportunity to thank you in person for the help you gave me when buying our family home in 2011. Buying a home is the biggest investment decision that most people ever make so your help was life changing.
I hope you enjoyed your time in Ireland despite feeling unwell towards the end.
I listened to your latest ‘Pete speaks’ and you mentioned that you are not sure why people around the world follow you. I thought I might be able to return a small part of the help you gave me by sharing with you the reasons why I have been following you for the last 17 years.
1. You have been blessed with a gift: Your visions on the markets have a heavenly touch. I know that you don’t always get it right but this just shows that you are not God! I believe that anyone that is fortunate enough to have been given a gift in life should use it and share it with others whether it is art, playing music, sport etc. And you share your gift willingly.
2. Honesty: I have been working in finance for 30 years and have come across plenty of crooks. Whereas I have always found you to be a person who gives views with the utmost honesty. I place huge value in this.
3. Humility: We all make errors and suffer in different ways. You admit both your errors and your sufferings. I have great respect for that and see it as a vital human quality.
4. Passion: You clearly have a passion for what you do. Mary says you are a ‘workaholic’ but I don’t think what you do is ‘work’! I find that in every area of life I am drawn to those who have a passion for it. One challenge for people that have a passion is to try and not let it become all consuming. I hope that you find a path to avoid this and still get to enjoy doing what you do. It is important to find balance and harmony.
5. Humour: As an Irishman humour is part of my culture. I enjoy the humour that you share.
6. Shared values: I am a Catholic and have strong religious beliefs. I share your views on abortion, gay marriage etc. I believe that societies that stray from religion develop real problems, as is the case in many places around the world today. I also share your views on politics. Ultimately I share your views on right versus wrong.
7. We have some other things in common: I lived in New Jersey for 4 months in 1991 as a student when I worked on a fairground in Seaside Heights. We both enjoy sports. We are both married to Irish ladies! And it has crossed my mind more than once that my father’s name was Peter Gra____, which is similar to yours!
In order for me to be following anyone for 17 years there would need to be a very strong reason. As you can see there are many very strong reasons why I enjoy following you.
Hopefully I will see you again in person some day. Please look after yourself and keep well in the meantime.
