Although my days of working with professional athletes and teams are long behind me, I still try to connect our philanthropy with the support of former players I’m blessed to still call friends. No two meant more to me than Joe and Dan Klecko. Aside from my wife and daughter, I’ve spent more time with Joe and his family than with anyone else.
It’s a rare opportunity to see this Hall of Fame member and Jets legend appear alongside his son, a three-time Super Bowl champion. What makes it even more special is that my granddaughter, daughter, and son-in-law are expected to join us.
Since my son-in-law is a big Patriots fan, I’ll play the following before he starts bragging about what they’ve done to the Jets over the years—and, like most Patriots fans, he quickly goes quiet.
My good friend and former 14-year NHL player, Pastor Adam Burt, has served as the NY Jets chaplain through much of their painful 15-year playoff drought. For his sake alone, I’m praying the Jets have a winning season.
