Whether you see The Holy Bible as the Word of God or simply a collection of man-made stories, we cannot deny that it is the most influential book ever written. For me, it is a manual for life—one I sadly avoided far too often, though I suspect I am not alone.

For me, two passages were critical in helping me stay on my walk with Christ in a more positive way, even though I still stumble at times.

The first was the call to remove envy and jealousy from my life, especially when I felt I had done everything right while someone else, who clearly had not, prospered instead of me.

The second was to make full use of a gift my father modeled for me: generosity in every possible way. Though he had little of what the world calls riches, he showed me its true value. I did not realize how vital generosity is to human life until I read Matthew 25:31–46.
